Breeding Program
Our young horses are bred and raised with diligence and love. A structured care and feeding regime is followed with only the best interests of the horse at heart. The breeding program commenced in 2001 and the small band of Southern Stars broodmares are now moving into the second generation. The bloodlines of Falkland 11, Medallion, Donnerhall (through Don Ramiro), Salute as well as a dilution of thoroughbred have been utilized as a starting point for our line. We use a combination of stallions specifically selected to suit and complement the individual mare. To date we have had a number of foals sired by Heath and Rozzie Ryan’s Jive Magic (Jazz) and Regardez Moi (Rubenstein). We also utilise imported bloodlines via frozen semen. Following a number of unsuccessful attempts over as many years our first crop of frozen babies were born in early 2007 amidst an atmosphere of anticipation. A stunning black Sandro Hit colt, a bay Diamond Hit filly (born after the sale of our Falkland 11 broodmare) and a liver chestnut Regardez Moi colt (live service). 2008 has produced offspring to the super Weltmeyer/Brentano 11 stallion, Worldly. Youngstock bred on our property have achieved excellent prices at auction. (This is not to say there is not a bargain to be had from time to time.) The oldest of our retained youngsters is now out competing and, as well as achieving excellent scores in tough Hunter Valley competition, has taken absolutely everything in his stride and given his rider immense fun in the process. He will soon be followed by a delightful Jive Magic gelding, Southern Joop, which looks to be a super dressage mount in the making.
